Scooters & Skateboards for Ages 12+

From twelve, riders are close to adult size and generally know exactly what they want. This is the upper end of the range: the pro scooters built for real impact, and commuters for riders covering proper distance.

      The advanced pro scooters

The Origin 550 at $249.99 and the Viral Extreme at $199.99 sit at the top of the range, with wider decks, taller bars and faster bearings. Both suit riders from around 4'8" upward, where the bars sit nearer the hip. That is lower than a beginner setup and it is what advanced riders prefer for tricks.

Riding to school, college or work

The Metro Urban Glide 300 runs 12-inch pneumatic tires that absorb the surface rather than transmit it, which matters over any real distance. It folds for storage at the other end.

      Boards

The longboards and drop-through decks here carry riders up to 220 lb and are built for cruising rather than street tricks.

      Buying at this age

A rider this size can use anything in the range, so the decision comes down to what they actually do. Park and street riding means a pro scooter; getting somewhere means a commuter; and if budget is tight, keep the size and drop a tier rather than the other way round.
